Central Illinois School District Exemplifies “Smart Business”
ICN hosts the internet traffic for the Chicago Zoological Society (CZS), which manages Brookfield Zoo. From the ICN, you can access the Society at http://www.CZS.org to reach their Conservation, Education, and Training Department that offers Educational Programs for individuals, families, teachers, schools, youth groups, and groups with disabilities. You can download curricula, find interactive games and activities, research featured animals. CZS also collaborates with the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine to send Digital Radioloy Images over the IP connection for vet consultations and participates in IP videoconferencing with students, hospitals, Lincoln Park Zoo, and Shedd Aquarium.
Available on a subscription basis only at this time, Kankakee County GIS is a property application for Kankakee County allowing subscribers to print images that have been scanned by the County Assessors Office, as well as, query and map property using information from the County’s property database and GIS data. The Kankakee County GIS program develops and maintains numerous base data layers including: survey controls; orthophotography; street centerline parcels; soils; zoning and jurisdictional limits; planimetrics and topographies for use by Kankakee County agencies and other partnering agencies. Kankakee County GIS also links to other web sites providing similar information including: the ILGIS Association; Arc Users of Greater Illinois; and GIS.com. The Prairie Area Library System (PALS), one of the ICN’s first clients, serves 26 counties from Jo Daviess to McHenry down to Kankakee and across to Muscatine and Clinton. PALS provides consulting, delivery, and technology services to public, academic, school, and special libraries in an area that covers over 11,000 square miles. PALS also hosts PrairieCat, an online consortium of over 200 libraries that gives easy access to over 8 million items. PALS also hosts web sites and email for its member libraries. PALS takes full advantage of the resources provided by ICN and Central Management Services (CMS), and is very happy to partner with them on endeavors ranging from internet access to videoconferencing.
