ICN Update- Next Steps |
||||
|
Hello, We have posted a spreadsheet to the ICN web site, which lists the status of circuit orders. I will update this spreadsheet every few days. Please visit the Avenew section of the web site and select Avenew Order Status Update to view this list. Information in the four equipment columns has been intentionally left blank. That information will be updated within the next few weeks. Our next step is to address equipment. The ICN Management Team has approved short term hire of contract help to assist in the installation and configuration of Bay routers for sites making direct connections to the ICN. Throughout the application and circuit order process, we have been gathering information on what sites may need help with their Bay routers. However, if you anticipate you will require help with your Bay router, please send me an e-mail with that request. Please include the names of the sites that will require help. Also, let me know if you will require help with the installation and configuration of your Cisco routers. In your e-mail, please include any specific applications that will be required to run on the router. About 50 sites have reserved loaner routers. We still have some remaining for direct connections to the ICN. Please let me know if you would like to reserve one. I have just learned of an offer from Cisco to Illinois education and local government sites for a 38% discount off some equipment. If you would like a copy of a Cisco flyer announcing this offer, please send me an e-mail with that request. We have received an unsolicited proposal for e-mail and web hosting services, which I will forward on to you as an FYI. For information, please visit http://www.microthought.com. We are starting to receive announcements from Ameritech about the completion of T1 circuits; a process that will continue for the next several weeks. As circuits are completed, ICN staff will move aggressively to make the final connection and site cut over to the ICN. Following our receipt of a completed circuit announcement, ICN staff will contact the site to set up an installation/cut over date and time. We will update the spreadsheet posted on our web site to reflect circuit completions. Thanks all. Please call or e-mail me with questions or concerns. As always, I do request that your e-mails include the names or districts of the sites for which you are responsible.
