School to Home Makes the Connection

Work continues on the development of the School to Home initiative that will facilitate web-based communication between Illinois parents and their children's K-12 schools. The application provides schools, parents and students with online access to grades, assignments, and classroom announcements. The application is designed to work in conjunction with a school's existing grade-book application or system. Data from a school's existing system will be batch loaded into the ICN School to Home Toolkit or entered directly via a web-based interface. The goal is to have the application be fully SIF (School Interoperability Framework) compliant in order to provide maximum compatibility with the commercial school administration software packages currently used in K-12 schools.

A number of school districts are testing beta versions of the application in order to provide user feedback that will strengthen the final version of the product. Based on the success of the beta testing and securing funds to support the project, the School to Home application is now available. The service will be offered free of charge to all Illinois public K-12 districts and all recognized private K-12 schools.
